Star Telecom, a joint venture between Viettel Global Joint Stock Company of Vietnam and Lao Asia Telecom (LAT) of Laos, launched Unitel in October 2009.

Unitel telecom network has been continuously striving to develop in order to contribute to the growth of Laos telecom sector and become the leading telecom operator in Laos. Within only a short time, Unitel has become a popular brand name known as a provider of the multi service operating system such as Fix phone, Wireless Fix phone (Uni home), Mobile service, Internet ADSL service, Leased Line, VAS. With the nationwide network and various low cost products, Unitel’s presence has really brought about a new positive change for the customers and society.

Unitel is leading the telecom market in Laos with 2.3 million subscribers, accounting for 49% of the market share in 2013.
