Moov Benin is a fully owned subsidiary of Etisalat UAE (via intermediary Atlantique Telecom). Etisalat is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world and the leading operator in the Middle East and Africa, headquartered in the UAE.
Traditionally a GSM 900 MHz operator, Moov Benin was awarded a technology neutral mobile licence by the government of Benin in June 2013. The company quickly developed a 3G DC-HSPA+ mobile network over B1 (2100 MHz) and switched on the service in February 2014.
In 2014 Maroc Telecom took over Etisalat’s West African operations comprising of its subsidiaries in Benin, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Niger, the Central African Republic and Togo.
As from 1st of January 2021, Moov is the brand of the African subsidiaries of the Maroc Telecom group. It is flanked by 11 companies in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Central African Republic, Chad and Togo.
